The Duavata Carnival in the Northern Division was provided a financial boost yesterday.

Digicel’s manager public relations and communications Satish Narain presented a $13,000 cheque to Carnival chairman, Satish Kumar. He also presented a Samsung Galaxy phone and credit for a whole year, which will be handed to the crowned Queen.

“With this it will help the contestant report crime to Police and help make the North a crime free division,” Mr Narain said during the presentation.

The carnival was launched on Wednesday night at the Banana Leaf Restaurant in Labasa by chief guest and member of Parliament Prem Singh, accompanied by Commissioner North Jovesa Vocea, Divisional Police Commander Shri Bahawan Singh and Mr Narain. This is the fifth year that the carnival is running.

“This is the only carnival that brings the North province and district together in Labasa for the whole week-long carnival,” Mr Kumar said.

The carnival has 23 contestants – six princesses, four teens, five kings, eight queens. PINTO Industries is the major sponsor of the carnival.
