Being the Speaker of Parliament is challenging and undertakes a lot of responsibilities, says Dr Jiko Luveni.

Dr Luveni made the comment while addressing students of Adi Cakobau School yesterday as part of the Fijian Parliament education outreach.

“We have to listen to both sides of the House before we make any decisions,” she said.

“It is very hard and comes with challenges but it’s one of the best experiences of my life. I encourage all of you to take an extra step and build your future in becoming someone who has achieved so much in life at an early age.”

Sharing her parliamentary experiences with the students, Dr Luveni said being confident was a key factor.

“Confidence will make you rise and take you places. I had confidence in myself before I was elected to be the speaker of the Parliament,” she said.

Dr Luveni is a former student of ACS. She graduated as a dentist from the Fiji School of Medicine in 1967 and has been serving the nation for the past 48 years.

She urged the students to work hard should they wish to achieve big things in life.
