Women’s Group Gives Utensils, Clothes For Tabuya Villagers

The president of the Soqosoqo Vakamarama, Adi Finau Tabakaucoro, on Wednesday made a donation to the village of Tabuya in Kadavu.
The village was flooded by high swells last month. The donation includes utensils and clothes.
Adi Finau said the Soqosoqo Vakamarama had received donations from women’s clubs Fiji wide after Tropical Cyclone Winston relief supplies had been distributed to the affected areas.
“Now the rest we are donating to Tabuya Village,” she said.
A former United Nations field worker, Aloesi Kaleca, received the donation at Nabua on behalf of Tabuya Village.
He expressed his gratitude to the Soqosoqo Vakamarama organisation for their kind donation.
To date, Mr Kaleca said some of the flood-hit families have returned to their homes.
Those whose homes were completely damaged by the flood waters were still sheltering at the evacuation centre.
These families are now waiting for tents from the Fiji Red Cross Society, which will be transported to the island in the next available ship.
