Lautoka striker Josefata Dugucagi scored the first goal of the Vodafone Fiji FACT 2016 tournament as they pipped Kasabias Ingco Suva 1-0 at Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday.

The fleet-footed Dugucagi continues from where he had left off in the Vodafone Premier League where he is the current leading goal-scorer.

The Blues settled down early and pressured the Suva defence with veteran goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara working overtime as he made several brilliant saves.

In one of their attacks Dugucagi followed up one of the attempts made and from the rebound was able to captialise on it as they led 1-0 at halftime.

Suva football coach Gurjit Singh said they failed to function in the first 15 minutes of the match.

“We need to address this before our next game,” he said. Suva threw everything in the second half but the Lautoka defence held them at bay.

“I was happy at how we had defended,” said Lautoka coach John Williams.

“The players did what they were told to do and they blocked Pita Rabo very well and he did not have room to move.”

Williams said with a win in the bag they are focusing on their next two games against Nadroga and defending champions Labasa.
