Defending Vodafone Fiji FACT champions Labasa had to look to captain, Taniela Waqa to score their first goal against Nadroga last night.

The veteran defender blasted the ball past Nadroga goalkeeper in the 42nd minute on their way to a 2-0 win.

“Our strikers were told before the match to score early goals to build up our confidence,” he said.

“It was a difficult match for us because Nadroga is a great team too. We knew what they could do so we had to play it safe with them.”

Waqa said they are grateful to the Almighty for blessing them with a win and it’s a good start to their title defence campaign.

Labasa coach Johan Leewai benched national rep Ilisoni Logaivau and striker Inia Boko. They came in as substitutes in the second spell as the Babasiga Lions took control of the match after Christopher Wasasala scored their second goal.

For today’s clash against Suva, Waqa says, they have great respect for the Gurjit Singh-coached side.

“It’s going to be a good game but for us we will go back tonight and see what the coach tells us about this game and what we should do against Suva,” he added.
