Updates From Fiji Car Club On Upcoming Events

Hello fellow car enthusiasts. We had an excellent weekend two weeks ago where we introduced the drag wars and quarter mile drags together for the first time.

It was a huge success. Not only race car drivers but we had over 800 spectators who came to watch some of Fiji’s best drivers.

Looking at this enthusiasm, we are hopeful this spirit will continue throughout the year in the rest of the events.

As already highlighter, after this very successful event, the executives have decided that we will now adopt the concept of having drag wars and quarter mile drag race together for this year.

I am also very pleased to see that six cars came from the Western Division to take part in the race. I am pretty sure, in the next event, more race car drivers from the West will come.

There are some great cars and we all would love to see them racing.

Car show

The Fiji Car Club Penrite Car Show has been confirmed for August 14.

We are expecting to host Fiji’s biggest car show. I urge all with show cars to start preparing your cars for this event.

Do not wait for the last minute as past experience has shown you might not be able to find the parts you need on time to get your vehicles ready for the show.

We are trying to secure an indoor arena for the car show which we are hoping will be confirmed by next week.

As mentioned in the past week’s column, Penrite Oils team from Australia will be here to grace our car show. I am pretty sure they will be giving out Penrite hampers.

As you all know, Penrite Oil is Australia’s leading premium engine oil which concentrates more on motor sports and passenger cars as well.

Global Warehouse is the distributor of Penrite Oils in Fiji and is the sponsor of the car show.

Racing development

Our next drags have been confirmed for July 24. We are encouraging lady drivers to come and try out racing.

Our Ladies Racing Development executive, Irshaad Jan, is working tirelessly in convincing more lady drivers to take part.

So all the lady drivers, please note you need to be a member of the Fiji Car Club to race. Once you are a member of the Fiji Car Club, you will be racing for free for the rest of the year.

Also hybrid owners, we have good news for you. We will have two categories for racing – one will be under 2000cc category and the other will over 2000cc category.

Race entry for hybrid cars will be $30. On the day, it is not about racing or winning, it is about learning to control your car.

Again do get your families involved in coming down to the tracks. This is not a sport for males only – this is a sport for females as well.

We will have food stall on the day but I do encourage you all to get your own food and soft drinks and spend good quality time with your family while watching the race.

Until next time, have a safe driving week.
