Madhwan Goundar was the Kasabias Ingco Suva side’s hero when he scored their lone goal against defending Vodafone Fiji FACT champions Labasa at Subrail Park, Labasa last night.

The 28-year-old midfielder took a quick shot in the 87th minute to seal the Babasiga Lion’s fate with a 1-0 win.

“I feel very excited to score the winning goal,” Goundar said.

“This is my first goal for this tournament. I quickly realised there was an opportunity for me to kick and believed it was my instinct as I did not give a second thought.”

He said at that moment the words of their captain Pita Rabo urging them not to lose hope but to give their 100 percent was on his mind.

“I would like to thank all the players, coach and my captain for fighting right to the end,” Goundar said.

A jubilant Suva coach Gurjit Singh said they are back after a shaky start.

“We lost our first game to Lautoka on the first day. I told the players that we have to win our second game and we really prayed well before stepping into our opponent’s home ground.

“I feel happy and proud of my players for sticking to the game plan and winning in front of the thousands of Labasa fans.”

Singh said today’s clash against Nadroga is a ‘must win’ one.

Although they lost their two games I have told my players not to be excited but to stay focus because we have to win this match also.”

Meanwhile, Advanced Parts and Spares Limited Labasa coach Johan Leewai said they lost many goal scoring opportunities.

“We had the speed but failed to make any goals,” Leewai said.

“Nevertheless, I am positive and we are looking forward to our last pool game against Lautoka. We are definitely going to win this.”
