The final preparations for the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championship are all completed.

Top contenders Australia and New Zealand have arrived and were seen testing the pool at the Damodar Aquatic Centre, Suva yesterday.

Fiji Swimming executive Lucy Erasito said the teams have started arriving and everything is expected to start smoothly.

“We’ve got teams from New Caledonia and Guam that have arrived and have settled in. They have also come down to the pool,” she said.

“All the equipment have been up so we are ready to start our competition on Tuesday.”

Erasito also added synchronised swimming is another event that would be included in the championship. This is the second time for the event to be held in the country.

“The last time they had the event was in 2004 but not many teams participated but this year we have more teams involved in synchronised swimming.

“The countries taking part are Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia.”

She confirmed the synchronised swimming events would be on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

While the pool events begin on Tuesday, teams from Australia and New Zealand will be participating on Monday in the open water event which is also a qualifier to the Olympic Games.

“On Monday we have the open water which is up at Uprising and that’s the 10km which only involves Australia and New Zealand. It is an Olympic qualifying event and we will have the opening ceremony at 5pm.”

She added that all teams have prepared well.
