New Zealand professional golfer Gareth Paddison continued his lead from the third round to win the Fiji Open Golf 2016 tournament at the Denarau Golf course yesterday. The 36-year-old shot an impressive score of 23 under 265 (70, 64, 65, 66) and fired five shot ahead of fellow countryman Pieter Zwart.

“First time to win the Fiji Open and it was decent to come with personal best of eight under today,” he said.

“It was a score-able course and very satisfying competition out there for the last four days. This has been my first win in the four rounds of competition this year. Glad to qualify for the Fiji International as well.” Kieran Muir finished third with 273 (68, 69, 67, 69) while Fijian professional Sam Lee finished fourth 275 (69, 69, 69, 68) to qualify for the Fijian International in October. Nick Gillespie came fifth with a score of 280 (71, 72, 71,66).

New Zealand’s Nick Ming won the Fiji Open amateur with 290 while 14-year-old Ga In-Ji of Korea won the Fiji Open women amateur carding a 284.

Men’s gross runner-up Roneel Prakash (292), nett winner was Ji Youg Soan (282), Ladies gross runner-up Ji Eun Lee (304), Sylvia Joe won her second Fiji Open Ladies nett winner with a score of 291, nett runner-up was Angela Fong (294). Golf Fiji president Manish Patel thanked all participants and sponsors for their contribution in making the event a successful one.

“This year’s event was a success and we look forward to the event next year. We thank all those golfers that came from aboard to be part of the event along with the local golfers,” he said.
