It was a proud moment for Suva Muslim College when they won the Central Division, Chemistry Battle at the University of the South Pacific (USP) yesterday.

They won the competition with 265 points relegating Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School to second position with 240 points.

Team leader Mohammed Shameem said: “We are very happy after winning this chemistry battle.

“We will now prepare to win the final battle.

“We expected to win Chemistry Battle because our team had worked really hard for the battle.”

Mohammed said this was the first time they had won this battle.

“Last year we were at the second position but this year we worked to win the first position,” Mohammed said.

“We had great support from our teachers, parents and school colleagues.”

Suva Muslim College chemistry teacher Sharon Devi said: “I am very proud with my Chemistry battle team.

“They worked really hard to win the Chemistry battle.

“I helped them wherever they needed me.”

The finals will be held in September between Suva Muslim and the champions from the West and Northern divisions.
