Fiji Women’s Rugby coaching director Chris Cracknell was impressed with the Telecom Fijiana 7s side during their hit out session with the New Zealand Women’s 7s team at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The two teams played three matches under the scorching as part of their build-up to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.

“I’m impressed with some of the things the girls did out there against New Zealand,” Cracknell said.

“It is the same old things that we have got wrong in tournaments, losing the ball in contests at the last moment, so we have improved for the day and hope it goes to Rio. I know the girls are now fit enough it is just getting those things right.”

Cracknell added that the players were coming to the end of their block which has been set-up for them and that includes playing against New Zealand and Samoa.

“The girls are probably tired at the moment, but that is part of pre-season and that is part of preparation for Rio,” he said.

New Zealand Women’s 7s coach Sean Horan said, for their side the preparation for Rio has been awesome and it is going according to plan.

“That’s why we came to Fiji, there is no harder place to play sevens you have the heat and you have the grounds which are hard. In the local area everybody knows sevens rugby,” he said. “The Fijiana team is a good side and that’s why we came to Fiji a very hospitable place. We have a lot of good connection and people here they love sevens,” he added.
