The Australians are looking forward to competing in the Oceania Swimming Championships.

It starts today with the open water competition at the Uprising Beach Resort, Pacific Harbour.

Team coach Tracey Stegbauer is confident her young team will perform to expectations in their individual events.

“They are really good, a resilient bunch ready for the challenge.”

Stegbauer said New Zealand should be a force.

“I think New Zealand will be using the championship as a hit-out before the Rio Olympics in August. It’s always good to have competition, rivalry so we are looking forward to the challenge,” she said.

She said the team settled in well since they arrived on Friday.

“The Fijian people have been very welcoming so it’s been really nice. the accommodation is great,” Stegbauer said.
