Chief Backs Drug Raids

Nadroga/Navosa paramount chief, Turaga Na Ka Levu, Ratu Kinijoji Vosailagi, says he backs Police raids on marijuana farms in Navosa highlands.
His position was conveyed to his traditional spokesman Ratu Tevita Makutu who said Ratu Kinijoji was happy with the success of the raids which have destroyed more than 30,000 marijuana plants.
Ratu Kinijoji has called on all his people to support the operation and provide information to help Police in their investigations.
He said he was ashamed that some Navosa people were involved in marijuana cultivation and the illicit drug trade.
His endorsement of the joint Police-military operation is significant and lends weight to the integrity of the raids which were criticised by SODELPA Member of Parliament Mosese Bulitavu.
It comes as Operation Cavuraka enters its ninth day today. Ratu Kinijoji thanked all those involved in the raids.
The Nadroga Provincial Council had made a proposal that a Police Drug Unit should be formed specifically to conduct raids, he said.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho has commended the officers involved in the drug operation.
He met them last Friday at Keyasi.
He also confirmed that the operation would continue.
