Six Chinese nationals who were found with 384 ATM cards and $22,807 by Police in Lautoka last December wept openly yesterday after they were sentenced to 35 months imprisonment each.

The men were charged with theft and dishonestly dealing with personal financial information by Magistrate Salakubou Raramasi at the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

The Chinese nationals broke down when Officers from the Fiji Corrections Services escorted them out.

The six, Sanlin Xie, Chanbao Xie, Li Chinling, Zong Chenhua, Weiqiang Liu and Yanyan Yang were spotted by an alert taxi driver behaving in an unusual manner.

The taxi driver alerted Police when he noticed the group conducting several suspicious withdrawals in the area last December.

The accused persons had arrived in Fiji from China on December 3.

The men were conducting the withdrawals on December 6 and were to have returned to China on December 7.

They were caught with more than 400 ATM cards and had been in state custody since.

The cards in their possession were BSP, Westpac and ANZ and apart from this, Police also found a total of $22,807 in cash.
