The two newly constructed lanes on the Namaka Corridor of Queens Road in Nadi are now open for motorists to use.

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA)/Nadi and Suva Road Upgrading Project (NASRUP) programme manager Zaina Khan said the first traffic peak following the switch of lane use, went through well yesterday.

Ms Khan was present on site to monitor the progress over the switch in lanes and witnessed the flow of traffic.

Current changes

“First, the existing Queens Road will become the service lane and switch direction, so it will be travelling towards Nadi Town,” Ms Khan said.

“This new set up will most likely result in changing habits for visitors travelling through Namaka who access shops and businesses as in the new four lane environment, the service lane will prevail towards Nadi.

“Secondly, with the new setup and service lane, we have made provisions for buses to operate and pull over to the side when disembarking and boarding passengers.

Message to motorists

However, Ms Khan says drivers must remember that the area is an active construction site and while traffic jams are expected, everyone should take care.

“This is still an active construction site and motorists should follow the temporary traffic management setup, advisory signs and cones posted on site,” she said.
