The title of Heritage Bill 2016 is misleading, says iTaukei Trust Fund Board chief executive officer Isoa Kaloumaira.

“The Bill’s intent is only a subset of Fiji’s total Heritage. The reason we form the opinion of the title is misleading,” Mr Kaloumaira said.

Mr Kaloumaira made these comments yesterday while making submissions on the Bill before the Standing Committee on Social Affairs in Parliament in Suva.

He made recommendations to change the name of Bill to capture the narrow intent it merited which are:  The World Heritage Obligations Bill; The World Heritage Convention’s Obligations Bill; or The Potential World Heritage Listing Bill.

Mr Kaloumaira also made recommendations to change the name of the Fiji Heritage Council to Fiji’s World Heritage Council or Fiji’s World Heritage Listing Council.
