Damaged Wharf Presents Challenge For Shipment

George Goundar says it will be a challenge to ship back to Suva 400 tonnes of debris and corrugated iron material in Ovalau because of the damaged wharf.
The debris came from the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston in February.
Mr Goundar is the owner and the manager of Goundar Shipping Limited.
He visited Ovalau last Friday just to see what the situation was like and how he could assist them.
Mr Goundar said that “cleanup trip” for Ovalau was going to be a tough one as they still had a damaged wharf.
“When I went to visit Ovalau last week, I didn’t know that the jetty in Levuka was condemned,” he said.
“This is going to be a challenge for me as I will have to talk to Pacific Fishing Company Limited (PAFCO) if they can allow us to use their jetty for Ovalau cleanup campaign,” he said.
He said even though the wharf was an issue for him and he would find ways to get the job done.
Goundar & Roko Ovalau
Mr Goundar said he was so happy that he managed to talk with Roko Ovalau Saimoni Dobui last week and some other people in Ovalau.
“I am happy to see that the Roko and people in Ovalau are doing their job in putting all the corrugated material on the road sides,” he said.
Plan for clean-up trip
Mr Goundar will not confirm the trip to Ovalau unless the wharf issue with PAFCO was sorted out.
$100, 000 allocated for Koro
Mr Goundar has again allocated $100,000 for Koro’s second cleanup trip where they would be able to tow the remaining 240 tonnes of debris and waste material that needed to be removed.
He is planning to make the next cleanup trip first week of July and he will confirm the date later.
New Economy Class
Work for the refurbishment of the new economy class of the MV Lomaiviti Princess III will be completed this Saturday. Mr Goundar said there were just few things that needed to be done. Those cost of the refurbishment is around $500,000.
