India has stepped in to strengthen our small and medium enterprises (SME) sector with a grant of $4.7million to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.

Yesterday, through a memorandum of agreement, the minister, Faiyaz Siddiq Koya, signed with India’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Vishvas Sapkal.

The grant comes under the ministry’s Small and Micro Enterprise Grant Development.

Mr Koya said: “We are grateful and appreciate the assistance given by the Indian government.

“The SME sector is important for us and we consider it a beginning for growth of our economy which is recognised by the Indian government.”

Mr Sapkal said: “Small and medium scale industry sector is always important as it gives benefit to all people.

“We are very happy to be a part of this development process and we shall continue to keep our partnership for future endeavours,” Mr Sapkal said.

Mr Koya confirmed that the grant scheme was an ongoing process and they would continue to keep the Indian government updated on the distribution of the grant.
