Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal says India plans to adopt 30 Fijian schools.

He said last night India wanted to create a better learning environment for children because they would become a valuable resource for the economy.

“We are considering the options of adopting 30 schools around Fiji to be a part of ‘Adopt a School Initiative’,” he said.

“It is a part of the Government’s initiative and the Indian government has come forward to help the children in Fiji have better schools to get educated after some schools were destroyed by the Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“Education is one of the main issues which the Government of Fiji is focusing on.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts’ budget has continued to increase year on year indicative of Government’s significant emphasis in the education sector.

$424.9 million has been allocated as operating costs, $20.1 million for capital expenditure and $3.6 million for VAT.
