The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) yesterday launched its Travel and Related Documents Issuance System (TARDIS Marine) and Marine Safety Database System (MSDS).

The two systems have been customised by considering the needs of MSAF and its stakeholders.

TARDIS Marine is a marine qualification recording and certification system.

It supports each step in the certificate issuing process from receiving the application to data entry, examination, authorisation, printing and dispatch.

TARDIS Marine also provides reports and statistics on system use so that efficiency and productivity can be monitored and managed.

The MSDS is an online system to register ships, apply for ship surveys, apply for costal trading licences or permits, apply for mooring buoy licences, apply for seafarer certificates and licences, reports on any casualties or defects to aids to navigation and other related activities.

These requests can be made from the Online Service of MSAF website www.msaf.com.fj

The MSAF chief executive officer John Tunidau said: “The two systems will allow MSAF to provide efficient and effective service to all its stakeholders.”

“MSAF is taking its services to the stakeholders located in the maritime rural areas.

“There is also the opportunity for these stakeholders to use the online application system,” he said.

Mr Tunidau said the online system will also facilitate timely response to request and quires submitted by the public.

All MSAF Regional Officers are now linked to this online system and MSAF is looking into going a step further and having computers allocated in its Regional Offices whereby the stakeholders can come and use the self-help facilities at the Office as part of its 2016 plans.
