Pasifika TV Programmes On Air Here

A new initiative that will now enable Fijians to receive a selection of television programmes from New Zealand through three of our free-to-air broadcasters has been launched.
The Pacific Broadcasting initiative launched here on Monday night at the New Zealand High Commissioner’s residence in Nasese, Suva, has also started distributing television programmes to other Pacific island countries through its channel Pasifika TV.
Pasifika TV content will be made available on local free-to-air television stations Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji TV and Mai TV.
New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji, Mark Ramsden said the initiative aimed to inform, educate and entertain people across the region.
“I am pleased that New Zealand sports, current affairs, documentaries and factual series are now available on our local free-to-air stations in Fiji,” he said.
“I strongly believe Fiji will see some great shows and sports from New Zealand.”
The initiative was announced by New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, at the Pacific Islands Forum in September last year.
Mr Ramsden said the New Zealand government was proud to support the initiative.
“We want to continue to foster and develop the relationships we have with our Pacific island neighbours showcasing our culture and identity through television is a great way to do this,” he said.
The initiative will also avail a training programme for local technicians, camera operators, vision switchers and studio technicians to build their skills across the region.
