The Government last night announced a salary increment for Police special constables.

This was revealed by the Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, during the National Budget 2016/2017 announcement in Parliament last night.

Police received a total budget of $131.7million which is an increase of $5.5m.

He said special constables would receive a 20 per cent pay rise.

“We want a Police that serves and protects the community; we want to equip our Police and give them the training they need,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

said budget allocation from Government indicated the trust they had on the Police force.

“We are really happy about the budget that has been allocated and it’s now my duty to seek the approval for the implementation of this budget,” he said.

“As mentioned in Parliament the salary increment for special constables will surely boost our moral and we had been working with Government on this.”
