The Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu has welcomed the High Commissioner of India, Vishvas Vidu Sapkal on a courtesy visit to the ministry’s headquarters in Raiwaqa.

Discussions centred on the various working arrangements between the two countries, with a focus on the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

There were shared views to consolidate proposals on working arrangement between the ministry and India through an umbrella Memorandum of Understanding.

On recent developments, Mr Seruiratu thanked India for providing two twin-cab Mahindra vehicles and two tractors to the Fijian Government to assist with the rehabilitation and recovery work after Cyclone Winston.

In due course, the Ministry of Agriculture will also be organising a meeting with an Indian consultant company, Water and Power Consultancy Services, which is currently undertaking some work with Water Authority of Fiji.

The intention of the meeting is to solicit feedback on Land and Water Resource Management Bill which was discussed earlier this year.

They also discussed cooperation on other areas such as National Disaster Management, Fisheries and Maritime Cooperation Agreement.
