The Social Democratic Liberal Party annual general meeting has accepted first coup leader and former Prime Minister as its new party leader.
Mr Rabuka presented a traditional apology to the party soon after he was named.
He sought the forgiveness of members for his role in the 1987 coup.
He also sought the forgiveness of SODELPA women members.
SODELPA president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu accepted the tabua on behalf of the party.
Opposition MP Viliame Gavoka and Ro Kini Kiliraki said they would support the Mr Rabuka.
