Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee said the players were not mentally prepared in their game against Georgia at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

The Lelos won 14-3 to conclude their Pacific tour unbeaten after beating Tonga 23-20 and drew 19-19 with Samoa.

McKee said winning the Pacific Nations Cup for the fourth year in a row was great achievement. But it was unfortunate that players were not up to the task yesterday.

“We really had a target of winning all our tests this June,” McKee said.

“We haven’t achieved that and when you look back, we won the Pacific Nations Cup. It’s a good achievement for us and our 2019 Rugby World Cup qualifications have had a good start.

“It’s easier for the boys to get motivated against the Pacific teams, but we need to be mentally tuned when we play test rugby.”

McKee was disappointed they couldn’t gain any momentum against a strong Georgian side that played well upfront.

“Credit to Georgia, they played really well,” he said.

“Their forward pack played to their strength and they linked up well. They have actually put us under pressure and we just couldn’t get any momentum.

“Critical turnovers, scrum penalties let us down. It was very disappointing; too many errors; you can’t play good teams like Georgia and commit many errors.

Europe Tour

The Vodafone Flying Fijians will meet the Barbarians, England and Japan during the Europe tour in November.

“November is a long way, we will have a look at this and we got tough games ahead.

“We got to be better,” McKee said.

He confirms 7s reps Leone Nakarawa, Samisoni Viriviri and Waisea Nayacalevu will be considered for the November tour selection after the Rio Olympics.
