Keep Healthy: Tuitubou

Civil servants and members of the public gathered at Nadovu Park in Lautoka to celebrate National Sports Day yesterday.

The Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou, also present said that non-communicable diseases (NCD) was one of the leading causes of many health issues during his speech.

“NCDs is astonishingly high with Fiji having the highest national crude death rate in the Pacific at 501 per 100,000 adult population suffering according to a 2012 research,” Tuitubou said.

He also encouraged civil servants to partake in physical activity.

“There’s strong evidence that taking part in physical activity and sports improves health,” Tuitubou said.

Participants played volleyball, soccer, netball and rugby.
