Tag Rugby Fundraise To help Us Rebuild

London-based Try Tag Rugby team comprising of Fijian players held a fundraising tournament on June 18 for Cyclone Winston relief effort.

The Tag Rugby community came together to play in the London Origin Series.

Try Tag Rugby chief executive officer Phill Browne, who is originally from Savusavu in Vanua Levu, thanked the Tag Rugby community in London for supporting the event in raising funds for relief effort.

“I also want to thank the Fiji High Commission for their support of the event, along with the volunteer staff and referees from Try Tag Rugby,” he said.

Brown, whose father grew up in Suva, had represented Fiji in rugby league.

“Despite being born in Australia, I still have plenty of family residing in Fiji,” he said.

“As a kid, I used to spend many school holidays in Fiji visiting family and I went back many times during my involvement with the Fiji National Rugby League.”

Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Jitoko Tikolevu along with NRL and Fijian rugby league star Wes Naiqama also attended the tournament.

Fijians, when things are down they all rally behind each other.

“Phill has done a great thing with the way things have gone, so there’s a lot of money raised that will be sent back home.”

The fundraising included merchandise auctioning.
