A man charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs appeared at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Anare Buresalei appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne who denied his verbal bail application.

Acting Police prosecutor Corporal Josua Shaw objected to bail as the accused reoffended whilst on a suspended sentence and on bail for a matter already in the Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on June 22, in Suva, the accused unlawfully possessed 30.4 grammes of cannabis sativa also known as marijuana, an illicit drug.

The charges were read to him in the iTaukei language which he understood and said he would seek a private lawyer.

Mr Somaratne has given Buresalei 21 days to get a private lawyer.

The court has been adjourned to July 8.
