A man pleaded guilty yesterday at the Suva Magistrate’s Court to robbery charges.

Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne will sentence Peni Masi Gonemaituba on Monday.

On June 22, Gonemaituba, 26, stole a purse belonging to Mehar Angez at Raiwaqa.  The court heard that he forcefully snatched the purse off her.

The accused is a farmer from Kadavu and he told the court that he was looking for his boat fare to go back to the island.

He admitted to the summary of facts that were read out to him in English.

The acting Police prosecutor Corporal Josua Shaw objected to bail as the accused has another matter in court and had reoffended whilst on bail posing him as a threat to the public.

Gonemaituba has been remanded.
