The office of the Indian High Commission in Suva officially welcomed the newly-appointed Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Vishvas Sapkal, and his family to Fiji last Saturday night.

They also farewelled the High Commission’s first secretary, JJ Varma, and his wife Sangeeta Varma.

Meanwhile, the wife of the new High Commissioner, Anita Sapkal, 42, said she was happy to be in Fiji.

“This is the first time I have come to Fiji; it’s only been two months and we are enjoying Fiji a lot,” she said.

Mrs Sapkal said she had visited Suva, Nadi and Lautoka and she felt as if she was in India.

“At first when I came to Fiji, I missed India a lot but now the feeling’s gone.

“The sugarcane fields remind me of India,’ Mrs Sapkal said.

She said the people here were very friendly and very welcoming.

“The people always have beautiful smiles on their faces and I would like to explore Fiji more closely,” she said.

Mr Sapkal will serve as Indian High Commissioner to Fiji for the next three years.
