Exuberant women of Lovu in Gau blocked the  road and stopped the Prime Minister’s vehicle yesterday. For a good reason.

PM Voreqe Bainimarama accepted their invitation to head to a shed where a powerful male voice  group serenaded him.

The women  poured  white body powder used during celebrations on him to show their joy over the earlier donation of a $77,000 timber treatment plant. The plant will enable the villages to log their trees and produce timber for sale.

Mr Bainimarama is on a two-day Gau visit  which ends today.

Mr Bainimarama was given a full traditional welcome ceremony at Sawaieke village, the seat of power in the Sawaieke district.

At Gau Secondary School in Nawaikama, Mr Bainimarama donated two outboard engines and boats to help transport students.  He also told the school that equipment and tools for a vocational centre on carpentry would be supplied.

In Bulu, he told the leaders of Bulu Methodist Training Centre to  submit a plan for their proposed new centre.

Last night the people of Gau presented their traditional apology (matanigasau) at Sawaieke for not voting for FijiFirst in the 2014 general election.

Ratu Inoke Seru, mata ni tikina (island rep) Gau, said the people had seen development Mr Bainimarama’s FijiFirst Government had accomplished in Gau and the whole of Fiji. He said they were grateful.
