Police are taking a closer look into the background of the Russian couple, who have been missing now for more than two weeks.

With Interpol now in the picture, director crime and intelligence ACP Luke Navela has asked for information into the background of the couple while they were in Russia. ACP Luke Navela

“Yes we have asked Interpol to help with this information.”

This was confirmed last night by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

All electronic devices, bank records, correspondences and telephone conversations are now being analysed by Police here.

A Police source said they were trying to ascertain why the couple suddenly disappeared and whether their disappearance is linked locally or outside of Fiji.

Yuri Shipulin and his wife, Natalia left their farm in the hills of Kachiquari, a feeder road along the Nausori Highlands road, in Nadi, sometime after midday on June 16. According to a Police source, the couple were spotted a little later at Denarau Island having some drinks.

Later that same afternoon, the couple’s vehicle, a grey metallic Toyota Land Cruiser, bearing the registration ‘PILOT’, was found at Natadola Beach, the doors unlocked with the keys still in the ignition.

It is believed Police found clothing inside the vehicle belonging to Natalia and which was said to be the one she was wearing on Thursday. Since then two pairs of feet, which have still not been identified and not linked to the couple at present, were found by security officers at Natadola Beach last week.

The Fiji Police had also earlier asked Interpol for DNA samples from the couple’s family in Russia.

ACP Luke Navela had earlier this week asked villagers and anyone who found anything unusual or resembled body parts to notify police.

ACP Navela will meet his team of 50 detectives and Police officers in Nadi today.
