The Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy, yesterday launched a fully equipped computer/library room at Korovuto Primary School in Nadi.

Mr Reddy said he was delghted the school was making progress.

The computer/library room was part of Radisson Blu Resort Fiji’s ‘Give back to the community’ initiative.

General manager Gerard Knight’s wife, Trish Knight, presented a set of 15 computers and library books towards the school project.

“It was special day in the calendar of the Korovuto Primary School and the time to look forward to the future,” Mrs Knight told the children.

She said the donations of the books were made from a donor in Australia and that the library/computer room will be visited often by her to ensure that it was being utilised fully.

In launching the new facility Mr Reddy said, “How future Fiji will be is pretty much defined by us in the school system; those responsible for the school system. It’s how we want to mould a child till to the age of 18, as this is when they are hungry for knowledge.”

He stated that it was this aspect of the education system that got the ministry to continue to ask questions and raise the benchmark of the education system.

The Minister said the global society was changing and our children needed to be on par or a step ahead of the development so they don’t become irrelevant at local, regional and global levels.

Our children need to be relevant if they are to succeed,” Mr Reddy said.

School head teacher Satish Singh thanked Mrs Knight and Dr Reddy and said the school would now progress further with the new facilities for the children.
