Team Yamaha Wins Long Race

New Zealand’s Team Yamaha aim to make a clean sweep in the final three races in the Fiji Fizz Regatta at Nadi Bay today.

This was after the David McDiarmid-skippered team won the Long race to Malamala Island yesterday.

Team Events Clothing finished second with Team Compass Markets third in the Mark Foy World Championship (18ft Skiffs).

Team Events Clothing skipper Glen Sowry said the race was a bit technical but fantastic to finish second.

“It was a very technical race. A game of snakes and ladders,” he said.

“Everyone had a turn at leading the race. We were fortunate to have our heads out of the boats and take the second.”

Compass Markets skipper Keagan York said it was good in the end.

“We came down in the pressure from the right, thought it would fill in as we went around the island but it just died,” he said.

Fifteen 18ft Skiffs from three countries are battling for Mark Foy World Championship and Triple Crown with only three more races for the final day.

The event is part of the Fiji Fizz Regatta in Denerau where other competition includes Foil Kite Championship and the Hobie 16 where Grahame Southwick has been in top form.

Port Denarau Marina managing director Nigel Skeggs has called on fans to watch the Fiji Fizz Regatta today.

“There was absolutely awesome weather condition out there and all the team are excited for the final day,” he said.

“Since Sunday the race condition has been beautiful. We expect more winds and people interested should come in number to watch the competition.”

He said there is Silverware for grab includes the Triple Crown line honours, Handicap plus Fiji regatta lines honours and handicap.

The awards night is scheduled for tonight at the Rhum-Ba at Denarau Yacht Club.
