Police may look to use drones to locate marijuana farms in the future.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said: “On one of my visits to the Operation Cavuraka team I had mentioned the use of a helicopter to conduct aerial reconnaissance if the need arises.

“We will not relent on our current war on drugs and if there is a need to use technological aids such as drones, we will do that.

“I have been informed that farmers are moving into even more treacherous terrain and are strategically planting in areas that would not easily be visible from the air,” he said.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said they have the strong backing of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) who were experts in identifying these areas and have tracked the interior with his officers.

“We will be locating these farms no matter how far they go,” he said.
