Govt Equips Police For Better Service

An avenue that Government is assisting Fiji Police Force is in increasing the salaries of both the regular and special constables and the provision of more vehicles to improve their services.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau made this comment during the closing of Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival at Subrail Park in Labasa on Saturday night.

“The increase in their 2017 budgetary allocation shows Government’s intent to enhance efficiency within the force for better service to the public,” Mr Koroilavesau said.

“Government sees the Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival as not an opportunity for our communities to gather and promote societal social activities such as these but to endorse confidence and involvement of our police in enhancing inter-relations with our law enforcers.

“Revenue raised from this carnival is generated back to the community by way of assisting the police in providing enhanced service and most importantly to assist in establishing projects that will engage the community towards meaningful endeavours rather than committing crime.

“It is very encouraging to note that this year’s project sees the construction of a rest house for the people of Tawake district at Wainigadru Village.”

The carnival began in 2012.

The theme for this year was Duavata for everyone’s safety.
