The Ministry of Agriculture will launch more initiatives to attract our youths into the agriculture sector.

Minister Inia Seruiratu said: “There’s a need for farming in Fiji to be made more attractive to encourage the younger people to consider making a profession of it.

“This is one of the major challenges the ministry is facing and plans are in place to launch various initiatives for youth and women in agriculture as well.”

Meanwhile, the ministry has been allocated $74.4million 2016-2017 Budget.

No comment on  billboard death

The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations is awaiting response from GoAdvertising, following the death of one of its employees while at work.

GoAdvertising refused to comment on the death of one Ilisoni Nate in March when contacted by the Fiji Sun yesterday.

Minister Semi Koroilavesau said: “The investigation for the deceased worker who was crushed to death by a billboard at Edinburgh Drive in March this year has been completed.”

The post examination mortem of the 31-year-old man showed that he died of suffocation because of compressive traumatic injury, he said.

The employee was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital by National Fire Authority officers and Police but was pronounced dead on arrival.
