Villagers around the Natadola area said the tragic findings of body parts belonging to murdered Russian couple Yuri and Natalie Shipulin were painting negative pictures to future tourists intending to visit the beach spot.

Villagers converge at the beach following the gruesome discovery of a decapitated head to catch a glimpse of the finding on Monday.

Silimaca Gaunavou, 41,  who lived all her life in Vusama Village in Nadroga said this was the first time anything like this happened at Natadola beach.

“This will paint a negative picture for the tourists who want to come to Natadola,” Ms Gaunavou said

She also added the villages were aware of the murdered couple and are scared, especially when Police came around with their dogs in the village.

“We thought the Police were after one of our locals.

“This is a well known place with three hotels Yatule Resort and Spa (Natadola Beach), Inter-continental and Natadola Beach Resort.”

She said villagers from Sanasana, Vusama, Navisabasaba, Batiri, Malomalo, Nalele, and Togobula were employed in these hotels.

“Today we have come here because we heard that Police have found another body part and we just wanted to see why this is happening,” she said.

The villages she said were aware of the incident and hoped that it would not stop tourists from coming to Natadola “as it is such an incredible and beautiful place.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand Tourist Brenda Aitken said this incident was not going to stop her from coming to Fiji.

“I will come again to take a swim in this beach.”
