WHOOPS!

Wrong Lai

Speakers at podiums are usually careful they don’t make embarrassing gaffes when the spotlight is on. Despite the best preparation, sometimes we make a slip.

It happened yesterday when host Patrick Bower spoke at the opening of the Melanesian Athletics Championships at the ANZ Stadium, Laucala, Suva.

Introducing the chief guest, Mr Bower said: “The Minister for Youth and Sport Laisenia Qarase…” (whoops, wrong name) he realised it, quickly corrected it and said “ Laisenia Tuitubou.”

Yes, Patrick, we know how you feel.

Wrong focus

It would be good if the Internal Affairs officer who is tasked with investigating a fellow Police officer does not start making excuses for his colleague’s behaviour.

And, it does not matter if you claim to have been a media liaison officer. What matters is that you do your job, that you have been tasked with, with all sincerity.
