Five farmers of Navosa, who had been charged with unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, were sentenced yesterday at Sigatoka Magistrates Court.

The accused are Samuela Tokalauvere 38, Epeli Ratabacaca 23, Peni Drole 25, Eloni Nabuli 23 and Maleli Tuikubulau 28. They appeared before Magistrate Tomasi Bainivalu.

Drole and Nabuli, who were jointly charged for cultivating 40 plants with the weight of 39.8 grams, were sentenced to nine months imprisonment each.

Ratabacaca cultivated 2055 germinated seedlings with weight of 397.1g. He was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment.

Tuikubulau cultivated 704 plants with weight of 889.1g. He was sentenced to 15 months.

Tokalauvere cultivated 283 plants weighing 612.6g. He was sentenced to 14 months.’

Magistrate Bainivalu, in delivering the sentences, said all the accused had been found guilty.

He said the five accused have 28 days to appeal.
