Jekope Usa was sentenced to 10 years in jail for aggravated robbery, by the Suva Magistrates Court on Monday.
On July 5, 2015 Usa, hired a taxi to Raisara Road where he punched the taxi driver’s stomach and took his wallet.
Usa appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne. He had pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Somaratne said: “Taxi drivers are providing a valuable service to the public in this country and they need to be protected.”
A non-parole of 8 years has been given to Usa.
He has 30 days to appeal.
