Year 9 student, Jone Ketebaca kept his late father, Sitiveni Moce, in his thoughts during the Ratu Sukuna Memorial School pass-out parade yesterday.

“I wish my dad was sitting at the stands cheering me on during my first passing-out parade,” he said.

“He would have been proud to see me on the field marching as it was my first time to take part in the parade.”

Mr Moce was a local veteran journalist who died last year.

Jone’s mother, Milikere Kautoga said: “I couldn’t hold back my tears seeing my son in the cadet uniform after the passing-out,I ran up to him and hugged him for his achievement.”

Jone said the six weeks of cadet training had taught him discipline, hard work and to strive for excellence in education.
