Let’s take special care of our sevens
The country’s Olympic body, FASANOC, apparently is trying to treat everyone in Team Fiji equally for the Rio Olympics. But should they?
Some are wondering whether our Vodafone national sevens team should be given a little bit of VIP treatment for one simple reason. They are our best hope yet of winning an Olympic medal, let alone gold.
Realistically, the only other part of Team Fiji with even the remotest chance of a medal is the women’s sevens team.
Would anyone really begrudge our sevens players a little bit of extra space and comfort to help their quest to bring glory to our nation?
Helping Nadi make a splash
Whisper is Nadi could be amongst the first to benefit from the PM’s determination to get more and better swimming pools around the country. That includes helping develop swimming as a competitive sport in which Fijians can excel by having more Olympic length pools, not just short course ones.
A lobby in Nadi hopes to see such a pool there at somewhere central like Mount St Mary’s in Namaka.
Nadi has already become a powerhouse in local swimming despite not having the advantages of Suva swimmers, with their international standard pool. Imagine what Nadi might do if they had an Olympic pool of there own to train and compete in.
