Matelita Buadromo hopes to do her best for her late dad Akuila at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Naroi, Moala native will swim against the world’s best next month in the 200metres freestyle event.

“My aim is to make my family proud to try to get a B- qualification time. My late dad will be happy if I achieve that,”Buadromo said.

“I am thankful for the support I’ve been getting from my coach Sharon Smith and my family for always pushing me forward.”

Buadromo and Meli Malani qualified for Rio through universality place.

“The main challenge now is competing against the world’s best and I will try to better my current time of 2.05.05minutes.”

As part of her commitment Buadromo has sacrificed some of her favourite food and drinks in order to maintain a healthy diet.

“I’m not eating junk foods and fizzy drinks right now. I’ve been reminded to eat good food and we will only cut down on carbohydrates when we are closer to the competition.”
