Former Wallabies coach John ‘Knuckles’ Connolly says, Fiji remain the top team to win the sevens rugby gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next month.

He said it could be a three-way battle between Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Fiji is going to be the favourites and we would all be cheering for them,” he said in Nadi yesterday.

The 65-year-old is in the country for the National Trainer Conference at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.

He added that Australia, France, Kenya and the USA would also be medal contenders.

“There has been reasonable performance from the French, Kenya and the United States They can cause upsets but Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa are the three favourites.”
