For 18-year-old Mere Kau being awarded the Best Female Cadet award for the second time came as a surprise to her at the Ratu Sukuna Memorial School cadet passing-out parade.

“I was surprised when my name was called out as I thought the prizes would be only be awarded to platoon commanders,” she said.

“I have been taking part in the parade for three years and it has boosted my confidence to consider a career in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces after my studies.”

Ms Kau is a Year 13 student and the school’s deputy head girl.

She dedicated her winning the award to her seven siblings and her father, who was present at the event.

“I’m the heaviest kid in the family and I hope this award will inspire my younger siblings that you can achieve whatever in life if you set your mind to it,” she said.

“My younger siblings who are in primary school also want to join RSMS and take part in cadet after witnessing my performance last year.”

A total of 976 students took part in the cadet passing-out parade at the Ratu Sukuna Memorial School ground yesterday.
