A sink hole has developed at a junction in Martintar, Nadi and the Water Authority of Fiji is doing its best to get it fixed.

The sink hole formed after an underground pipe burst yesterday morning.

This caused a part of the road to collapse. Additionally, water disruption was felt in a few areas in the Jet Set town.

A taxi slid into the sink hole as the road gave in. It belongs to Ruwailevu Taxis.

Water disruptions

The damaged pipe also left many of the nearby homes without water while a few private compounds were flooded by the underground burst.

Ruwailevu Taxi director Moiz Khan said: “There were a few vehicles that fell into the sink hole including our taxi.”

But added his taxi did not get damaged.

A resident nearby said: “The water pressure is very low at home. We’ve not had any water since 4:30 this morning (yesterday).”

Water Authority of Fiji corporate communications support officer Salaseini Moceiwai confirmed the incident.

She said workers were doing all they could to control the situation but could not confirm when the water disruption would end.
