Singh Tipped To Join Krishna To Rio

National football sweeper Alvin Singh is most likely to be among the three senior players in the Vodafone Fiji squad to the Olympic Games in Rio.
Fiji FA vice-president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy said the Ba rep has been in good form during the national team preparation especially at the Vodafone Fiji FACT at Subrail Park, Labasa last month.
“For the three senior players, Roy will be one, most likely will be Alvin Singh and we just have to look for the third one whom we have not decided yet,” Reddy said.
The third one is likely to be Rewa and former national goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau.
Reddy said the team are in camp and would before they leave for Rio.
“It’s good that the Vodafone Premier League has been deferred which will give our players time to concentrate for the Rio Olympics. We are doing our best to prepare the team as this will be our first appearance in the Olympics Games.”
He said they have a tough task ahead as they are drawn with Mexico, Korea and Germany.
“We are in a tough pool but I know our boys will not let them go easily as we did in the FIFA U20 World Cup.”
Reddy said Fiji Football created history beating Honduras in the FIFA U20 World Cup and they are sure the U23 boys would also do wonders in Rio.
“The morale in camp is high and the boys are looking forward to the games, “he said.
The Lautoka businessman said the final 18 member squad will be named this weekend.
“Currently we have a 24-member squad but we are eligible for 18 with three senior players.”
Fiji start their campaign against Korea on August 4, faces Mexico on August 7 and final pool match against Germany on August 10 at Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador, Brazil.
