Parmod Enterprises Limited owner Parmod Chand has expressed frustration at the condition of roads in the interior of Bua and Macuata.

Mr Chand said bus companies in the North wanted to buy new buses so members of the public could travel in comfort.

“But the authority in charge of roads was not playing its part.

“The road at Wainunu and Bua has been in a pathetic condition for a long time now and it has been affecting the condition of the buses,” he said.

“Many a times poor bus conditions are blamed on operators like us but little do people realise that buses are the way they are because of the road conditions.

“The authorities must ensure the roads are in a good condition so that we can provide the best service.

“I am talking about the Wainunu-Daria and the Tabia-Naduri roads.”

Land Transport Authority chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said they were serious about addressing issues under their responsibility.

Mr Tuinaceva informed Special Administrator of Labasa and Savusavu Town Council Vijay Chand: “With public service vehicles, they are quite rightly at the very top of that list.

“We also understand how frustrating it can be for those operators when weather conditions can bring about such rapid deterioration to a road network that, whilst improving, is still fragile after many, many years of lack of adequate maintenance.”

The LTA held a stakeholders meeting  at the Labasa Civic Centre on Wednesday.
