The management of the national women’s rugby sevens side are banking on the power of unity as they prepare for next month’s Olympic Games.

Women’s Rugby coaching director Chris Cracknell said the main motive of their training at the sand dunes was for players to test themselves and bring the essence of unity in the team.

“The main motive here is to get bit of team unity and we think that’s lacking at the moment, so it’s good to come up here and try something different,” he said.

“From the experience it is tough out there and it makes you work hard, endurance same as the men’s who have come here and we have seen throughout this year in the series.”

He said the journey has been an interesting road these last few weeks.

Cracknell believes that former national netball captain Matila Waqanidrola has been excellent for the team.

“Matilda has done it the hard way just like Jarred (Hayne) she came in late. She is on top of her fitness now, for her it is a big challenge had not played sports for eight months and has given her all in the training sessions. She has offered a lot in terms of leadership away from training. She has also galvanised the group of them together, the whole four months she has been with us now.”

Cracknell has faith in skipper Ana Maria Roqica just like Osea (Kolinisau) is for the men.
